In past presentations to Columbus Audubon, former Ohio first lady Hope Taft mentioned several resources for those interested in learning more about Ohio’s Heritage Garden.
Let’s start with the Heritage Garden Web pages, which are part of the Ohio Governor’s Residence and Heritage Garden site. You can start on the Heritage Garden information page and use the menus under Heritage Garden on the left to explore. When you look at the Map of the Garden, note that you can click on areas within the map for details. When you check out the Virtual Tours, be sure to click on the Heritage Garden Tour; you can hit the space bar to advance through the slides manually.
When you decide to tour the Heritage Garden in person, use the Tours link on the menu to find complete information or call 614-728-5611. Tours are offered most Wednesdays, must be scheduled at least a week in advance, and are on a first come, first served basis.
If you are interested in becoming more involved with maintenance and preservation of the Heritage Garden and the Governor’s Residence, check out the Friends of the Ohio Governor’s Residence and Heritage Garden Web site. You’ll find a wealth of information about the history of the residence and the Garden, along with details on how you can help preserve these parts of Ohio’s heritage.
