The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County owns one of the few intact copies of the “double elephant” folio of John James Audubon’s Birds of America. This work has been on display for years, with one page turned each week. The library now has a new computer touch screen in the Cincinnati Room which allows visitors to digitally flip through the books and zoom in.
But better yet, you can see Audubon’s magnificent artwork without leaving home! Well, the artwork is on your computer monitor, so it’s not quite the same, but it’s still wonderful — you don’t have to drive to Cincinnati and you can enlarge each print to see all the details. It’s all on the Audubon Birds of America page at the Cincinnati Library Web site.
