The national Audubon Web site has an interesting article on bird molts.

What’s a molt, you ask? Well, we know that birds have plumages — feathers in certain patterns. But as the seasons change, so do birds’ feathers. Feathers are lost and replaced in a process called molt.

For birders, it can be confusing. Birds look different at different times of the year. And it’s really confusing in the middle of molting season. So Audubon comes to the rescue with some tips on how to ID molts and be better prepared. Read more on the Audubon Web site.
