Linda Benner and Lori Patterson represented the Slate (Run) Colored Juncos for a day of birding on Saturday, May 13. They had awesome weather and when the sun finally hit the trees, the birds did not disappoint! Linda and Lori found a total of 85 species.
The birds of the day were a family of American Woodcocks, a female with three chicks. They saw the female first as she stood at the edge of the trail. After she determined that mere birders were not a threat, she started walking along the trail way from the team. Out of the weeds behind her, in single file, came three big chicks, still a little fuzzy looking. The chicks followed mom up the trail a little way and then into the brush on the opposite side. So cute!
