New research confirms what many Columbus Audubon members already knew: the sounds of singing birds are calming. In fact, listening to singing birds reduces anxiety and even paranoia.

Urban environments, like those in the Central Ohio area, are filled with noise. This can worsen our moods and leave us feeling anxious. A team of German research scientists found that exposure to birdsongs helped reverse these effects, calming people and reducing anxiety.

You can read a summary of the research at the Newsweek website, or check out the original research paper in Scientific Reports.

Now go out there, listen to some birds, and relax!
