Earlier this month, the US Fish and Wildlife Service decided to keep the Golden-checked Warbler on the endangered species list. Texas officials had petitioned for its removal from the list. But the USFWS cited a lack of scientific information that might justify removal.
Audubon chapters in Texas had urged the USFWS to retain protection for the bird, showing that citizen action through Audubon can indeed make a difference.
