Protect Puffin Habitat

Steve Kress with Puffin on Egg RockFor a long time, we weren’t really sure where Atlantic Puffins went in the winter. Many of them nest on islands in Maine in spring and summer, but after that they wander off to wintering areas….which are where?

The National Audubon Society has found out. Research shows that many of the Puffins go to the New England Coral Canyons and Seamounts, and area of the ocean in the Gulf of Maine. Not only Puffins, but also whales, porpoises, tuna, sailfish, and other seabirds use this area as well.

We can permanently protect this very productive ocean region — it’s in US waters. Please ask the President to permanently protect this vital ocean habitat. It’s easy: just click here to send a message from the Audubon Action Center. And thank you for your help!
