Columbus Audubon needs your help!—adults of all ages. We need your passion, skills and commitment! Are you interested in getting involved with Columbus Audubon and finding ways to contribute to conservation efforts? 

We have a wide range of volunteer and committee opportunities.

Volunteer Opportunity: Monthly Program

Activity: Event Coordination, Set Up and Tear Down

Frequency: 4th Tuesday of the Month Evenings – September, October, November, January, February, March April

Description: Join the team to help make the Monthly Program a reality on the 4th Tuesday of the months of September – April (no program in December). We need help with various items such as the bird quiz, raffle station, refreshments, sign in table, and tear down. By signing up for this volunteer opportunity you will also be able to enjoy the conservation spotlight and featured speakers. If you’re interested in supporting education and spreading the word about conservation through public talks, this volunteer activity is for you!

Volunteer Opportunity: Calamus Swamp Work Days

Activity: Outdoor Work

Frequency: 3-5 Work Days a Year, Typically in the Spring and Late Summer/Fall

Description: Help us provide stewardship for Calamus Swamp. Join us in clearing invasive plants in order to promote native species. This volunteer opportunity is outside and is physical. If you’re interested in team work, getting dirty, and positively impacting land and the native species that live on it, this is for you! 

Volunteer Opportunity: Birdathon 

Activity: Fundraising Coordination

Frequency: Planning January – March (monthly meetings), Birdathon Month of May

Description: Join the CA Birdathon team in promoting our largest fundraiser of the year. We need assistance with signing up teams, setting up fundraising software, securing sponsors, and coordinating the celebratory potluck. If you’re interested in making a conservation impact through Columbus Audubon this is for you!

Volunteer Opportunity: Field Trips

Activity: Leading or Assisting with Birding Tours

Frequency: 1-2 Field Trips Monthly and/or on Saturdays at Grange Insurance Audubon Center

Description: Are you interested in birding and sharing your knowledge with others? We are looking for field trip leaders and assistants who are interested in guiding birders on tours. If you’re interested in spending time outside spotting birds, this is for you! 

Volunteer Opportunity: Outreach

Activity: Tabling Events and Working with the Community

Frequency: 1 – 2 Outreach Events Monthly

Description: We are searching for someone who is passionate about conservation through education. As an outreach volunteer you would attend community events and work a Columbus Audubon table promoting conservation and the love of birds and other wildlife. If you enjoy communicating with others, working with families, and advocating for the environment, this volunteer activity is for you! 

Committee Opportunities

Committee Opportunity: Monthly Program Committee

Activity: Planning and Coordinating Monthly Programs

Frequency of Meetings: 1 Virtual Meeting per Month

Description: The Monthly Program Committee plans seven environmental speaker events each year on the fourth Tuesday of the month. We need assistance booking speakers, planning logistics, promoting the event, and running the program. If you are organized, great at communicating and have connections with environmental speakers, this committee is for you! 

Committee Opportunity: Fundraising/Birdathon Committee

Activity: Planning and Coordinating Fundraisers/Birdathon

Frequency of Meetings: 1 Virtual Meeting per Month January – April

Description: The fundraising/birdathon committee works to coordinate and run our annual birdathon fundraiser for the month of May. We need help with running fundraising software, inviting and signing up individuals and teams, locating and securing sponsors, and organizing the celebratory potluck. If you are interested in making an impact through fundraising that supports all of our conservation efforts, this committee is for you! 

Committee Opportunity: Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee

Activity: Planning and Coordinating DEI Frameworks

Frequency of Meetings: Virtual Meetings as Needed

Description: The Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee works to promote fair treatment and full participation of all people with Columbus Audubon. Particularly with groups who have historically been underrepresented or subject to discrimination on the basis of identity or disability. If you are interested in organizing the DEI framework of the Columbus Audubon organization, this committee is for you! 

Committee Opportunity: Song Sparrow Newsletter Committee

Activity: Planning and Coordinating Newsletter

Frequency of Meetings: Virtual Meetings as Needed

Description: The Song Sparrow Committee works to edit and publish the monthly newsletter August – May (not including December). This committee needs assistance with collecting content, arranging, and revising. If you are organized, a great writer, and have a keen eye for editing, this committee is for you!

Committee Opportunity: Community Outreach Committee

Activity: Planning and Coordinating Community Outreach

Frequency of Meetings: Virtual Meetings as Needed

Description: The Community Outreach Committee coordinates the schedule of events that Columbus Audubon attends to promote the organization. This focuses on educational events such as festivals and environmental programs. If you enjoy research, scheduling and promotion, this committee is for you!

Committee Opportunity: Field Trip Committee

Activity: Planning and Coordinating Field Trips

Frequency of Meetings: Virtual Meetings as Needed

Description:  The Field Trip Committee coordinates all field trips Columbus Audubon provides to the community. This committee needs assistance with coordinating and leading birding trips annually, quarterly, or every other month. If you are organized, enjoy working with groups and birding, this committee is for you!
