Kate McFarland is a first-term board member of Columbus Audubon. She grew up in rural Fairfield County and met her spark bird, a Great Blue Heron, in Columbus. Although sometimes still observed as a vagrant in Columbus, Kate currently lives as a digital nomad while pursuing her goal of continuing to live car-free but far away from major cities. She presently works as the associate director of the Center for Ethics and Human Values at the Ohio State University
