Field Trip: Late Winter Birds of the Darby Plains
March 1 @ 8:30 am - 2:00 pm
Late Winter Birds of the Darby Plains
When: Saturday, March 1, 8:30 AM-2:00 PM
Where: Meet at Darby Bend Lakes – map
Description: Shake off your cabin fever and come with us to search for waterfowl and open country birds wintering in the Darby Plains. Some waterfowl will already be migrating by now. We’ll try to find open water and the geese and ducks that it should harbor, hoping for unusual strays mixed in with them. We’ll also check some of the fields and wet meadows looking for unusual winter birds like longspurs, meadowlarks, and shrikes, along with the expected birds like kestrels, horned larks, and sparrows. We’ll have a few short hikes on trails, so wear durable waterproof footwear. Dress warmly, as we’ll be in some open, exposed areas. We’ll meet at Prairie Oaks – Darby Bend Lakes at 9:00 am; go all the way in to the last parking area by the restrooms.
Trip should be over by 2 pm.
